Did you know that November is Diabetes Awareness Month? If you have diabetes, here’s some important information!
- The commonly used diabetes drug metformin hydrochloride has been recalled by the FDA after finding it contains excess levels of a cancer-causing agent.
- The recalled drugs are marketed as “extended-release tablets” under the brand name Time-Cap Labs, Inc.
- The drug helps lower the blood glucose levels of those with type 2 diabetes.
- But the recalled product contained an unacceptably high level of N-Nitrosodimethylamine, which is considered a probable human carcinogen. While you should consult with your doctor if you are among the population taking this drug to manage your type 2 diabetes, there are alternative approaches you can take to manage this disease.
