Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to treat a number of ailments and illnesses. Unsurprisingly, research done by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) shows that acupuncture may reduce the risk of developing prediabetes, a condition that can eventually lead to type 2 diabetes.
Prediabetes, or impaired glucose tolerance, is a condition in which the blood sugar is elevated but is not high enough to be considered diabetes. This, along with diet, exercise, and lifestyle factors, can influence a person’s risk level. Acupuncture can help with these factors and work holistically to help people balance their life before the onset of chronic illness.
While the research done up to this point is credible, and shows clear trends of acupuncture and holistic treatment as an effective approach to those with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes, there is still more to learn.
No study addresses all the different variables that could influence outcomes.
